This series of images was shot in Whistler BC Canada during December 2012. The photos were shot with an old Pentax ME camera on Ilford XP2 Super 400 ISO film.
Winter 2011 was the first ski season I missed in 23 years. This series marks my return to the mountains the following year, with the camera that was once my mother’s. I still love shooting on film. I love the quality that it produces in photographs, a quality that is real and not created with a computer. I love the little mistakes that can happen, which can never be replicated again. An example of one of these accidents is the first image of this series – an accidental double exposure, which has resulted in one of my favourite photographs I have ever taken. To me, viewing these photos brings a certain peace to me. They take me to my happy place, they take me home. I hope that those of you who choose to purchase any of these images feel some level of the same and fondly look upon them wherever you choose to hang them.
